But I knew that I had to.  No one had a gun to my head but the urging to tell my story was stronger than if there would have been one.  After more than 25 years of silence, I suddenly felt as if I wanted to share the beauty and lesson of the experience more than I wanted to protect myself from the ridicule and arguments that were sure to come.

There’s been some of that but there have also been people like Brad who have shown up and made me feel like I did the right thing.  I had shared my story to help others understand the importance and power of love and to help remove the fear of God’s judgment because I felt only love from Him.

Brad was someone who related to my experience because he has experienced a special connection himself-and it didn’t require a “near death experience.”  Everyone is capable of experiencing something similar.

It can be easy to get stuck by seeing a problem and difficult to hold the vision of triumph before it has materialized.  It is easy to get discouraged and want to quit.  And that’s why people like DJ Gregory are such a gift.

After watching this video, how can you possibly want to quit something you started just because it gets tough and challenging?  I hope his words spoken on his day of triumph will ignite your heart like they have mine.

“If you have a dream, go after it.  Don’t let anybody tell you you can’t do something.” 

This said from a man who was told as a boy that he would never walk.  He didn’t listen and instead reached his goal of walking every hole of every round of every event of the 2008 PGA tour.  He lived out his dream by walking over 900 miles that year on his own two legs steadied by a cane and a mind and heart full of determination.

DJ, you will inspire me forever!

You’ve probably heard the phrase “mind over matter” that is mentioned when a person gets results that most people would not expect.  That person has a vision and positive feelings about seeing it through until it becomes reality.  That person does not allow fear of an unwanted result to enter into his/her mind. 

 You have the same ability and it works with health issues.

Do you know what one of the biggest stressors to the immune system is?  It’s FEAR.  It’s not the actual disease or disaster, which rarely happens, but it is the FEAR of the disease or disaster that wears down a healthy body.

All I have to do is look at my “love” and “fear” strawberries to remind me how destructive fear is.

If people around me are sick or the news is spreading warnings about some horrible affliction that is spreading, I feel a wave of fear go through my body and my thoughts bring up images of getting sick also.

Immediately, I say “No” to those thoughts.  I banish them from my mind, turn the news off, go and do some energy work to remove the source of the fearful thoughts.  Then I do things like eat chicken soup and remind myself that studies have shown that it actually does help.  I take some extra vitamin C and imagine it going in and boosting my immune system.  I hear the words of Dr Bruce Lipton as he explains how our bodies have all the stem cells we need to heal ourselves of anything.  He says we don’t need the pharmaceutical companies harvesting them and then selling them back to us.  So I create an intention and an image of my stem cells rushing to the aid of any vulnerability I might have and strengthening it so I remain healthy and strong.

I do everything I can to support a strong healthy belief that I am healthy and strong, which includes feeding my body things that I believe will support it.

I remind myself of times like the one where I became very ill on a day where I was scheduled later that evening to perform at a little club.  I was the solo act, singing and playing guitar, and I could barely speak let alone sing, due to severe coughing, sneezing etc.  It was a small very unimportant gig and I could have easily cancelled but it was very important to me.  It had built momentum and was now a huge party for some of my family and friends and some had never been out to see me perform before.

I simply got mad.  I refused to be sick, even as I got sicker as the day went on.  I told myself over and over again “I AM GOING tonight and I will have a wonderful time and sing as well as I ever have.  I will NOT be sick.  People asked me what I was going to do.  I answered with complete conviction.  “I am going to play tonight and I will NOT be sick.”  I used ceative visualization and I believed it with every ounce of my being.  I was indignant that this cold/flu could think it could mess me up!  I went on with my plans never giving a thought to the fact that I was sick and wouldn’t be able to sing.  The images in my creative visualization are all I allowed my mind to see.

When I walked out the door and headed to the club, my head cleared, I felt fine, played my heart out and had a great time.  After I packed up and headed back home, all of the symptoms returned and I was just as sick as I had been earlier in the day.  But I had gotten exactly what I had asked for and visualized-to be well that evening so I could play and sing.  I realized later how much thought I had given to the fact that I didn’t care if I got sick again later, I just HAD to be well to play that evening.  Things were happening consciously and subconsciously because of my thoughts and beliefs. 

With hindsight, I can see a flaw in my plan to be well to sing.  It could have been just as easy to banish the cold for good.

Do you really want to allow fear of the Swine Flu or anything else to control your thoughts and add the very stress that can cause the vulnerability?  You have the power to choose and do something about it.

My decision is to create a vision of health to see in my mind’s eye, to support my physical body with good nutrition, water, sleep and exercise and energy work to reduce my stress and change the beliefs that cause me to be fearful.

It was entitled “Rhonda Byrne’s message about the’law of attraction’ isn’t a positive idea for everyone” and was written by Tara Burghart.

“…the fear that “The Secret” will lead to a blame-the-victim mentality is a serious claim of critics.” 

Well I think their title says it all.  They are critics.  They are paid to criticize.  Most people don’t really understand what is meant by “The Law of Attraction,” let alone critics who generally aren’t trying to understand anything that requires a certain depth of thinking.

The Law of Attraction is really a spiritual principle that evokes ” a knowingness” about an outcome that can’t be explained as a connection is made that isn’t understood.  There is clarity of purpose and an intention to acquire an end result.  There is a process that is going on and sometimes it is subconscious and sometimes it is happening consciously with visualization and intention.

Sometimes things do flow quite smoothly and suddenly something appears that you have desired.  But more often than not, there are opportunities that show up and the “attractor” seizes them and follows the stepping stones that lead to the end result.

I would imagine that Rhonda Byrne put a lot of effort and energy into producing the movie and book.  I don’t believe it happened while she was poolside with a drink in her hand although I am not saying that is impossible.  Just the same, her dream became her reality.

I don’t know of anyone who feels that they are in total control of everything in their life. Or that everything happens effortlessly, just because a thought came to them.

My take is that if a person is focused on others and placing blame and criticizing a person for their lot in life, the person doing the blaming isn’t at a place in their own life where they are getting the end results that they are looking for. 

The “blamers” aren’t the ones that have The Law of Attraction” working in their favor.  I don’t believe that those who “get it” spend their time in the blame-the-victim mentality.  AND those who feel like they are being blamed may not have had that thought in the first place if it wasn’t being engrained by misinformed media who like to talk about it.

All they need to understand is that it isn’t about blame.  It is about searching out peace of mind and developing skills that then allow you to co-create a different lifestyle.  It’s also about loving others into a better reality-not beating them down with finger pointing.

We make decisions every day that bring us closer to or move us further from that indescribable state of bliss I experienced during my near death experience. God, or what different people refer to with different names such as The Mind of God, Universal Mind, The Universe, and many others, just is. I no longer think of God as a man sitting on a throne waiting to judge me but as a loving Presence that is everywhere and responds to my thoughts and intentions. That is why The Law of Attraction works as it does. The Universe responds to your energy and reflects back to you what you are putting out there.

The only thing that makes sense to me is to realize that we aren’t victims and God isn’t doing things to us to punish us. If darkness is being felt, it is because we aren’t tapping into-or tuning into the Light. We are the ones who separate ourselves from those ultimate feelings of tranquility and total bliss that I experienced the day of my near death experience.

I am so grateful that this brilliant loving Presence gave me a choice to go back into my body, have a positive impact on others and become something more than what I was seeing as I reviewed my life. He didn’t do it through judgment and criticism. He did it in a way that allowed me to feel only Love from Him and I’m convinced that we are all meant to treat each other the same way.

I’ll be sharing a story with you next time that I never would have believed was possible if it hadn’t happened to me. It proved that we have amazing power and anyone can develop it and use it for good. There is no way you can think of yourself as a victim of circumstance when you understand how to create instead of react.

That doesn’t mean that you have total control over life. I believe certain things happen that are beyond our individual control. But it does mean that you have the power to control your perception of things and the results that flow from your perceptions and beliefs. You don’t have to accept any situation the way it is and feel like you just have to live with it. You have tremendous power within you to change things but you have to choose to develop and use it.

This power can be used by someone to become a person like Hitler or it can be used to bring all forms of abundance to you, your family, community and ultimately the world. That is where free will comes in. The process works whether you use it for good or bad. Intention backed by passion is a very powerful force and that is why it is important to have control over the emotions you feel. What you put out there will return to you and the lower energies like greed, revenge or unforgiveness cannot exist with true happiness and peace of mind.

Peace of mind is never a part of the kind of success that is accomplished with the lower energies that cause you to feel as if there has been a fight to take something. When you remove the resistance, the higher energies can flow into your life, bringing in situations that are better than you could ever have designed yourself. And that manner of working on goals always brings a sense of contentment. Is there anything better than a feeling of peace and contentment in your heart?

Coming from your heart is coming from a place of power and that power can be focused in the direction of your dreams once you understand how.

If you want your life’s story to change, it can. The possibilities are limitless when you learn how to take charge and develop the skills that allow you to design your life from that place of power.

Here is one final story. It is one of the many that convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are the ones who create much of what we have to deal with in life.

After years of calamities that seemed to happen in the fall, I had learned to cringe when I heard the word “September”. I was never sure exactly what it would be but I knew that something would happen. That belief was reinforced by constant joking from friends and family as they asked what it would be this time. We all knew it would happen, we expected it and then it happened.

One year I was working at a summer camp as a young teenager. The nurse gave me someone else’s medication by mistake and I had a severe drug reaction. Off to the hospital I went.

Then there was the time when I was out horseback riding with a friend. Her horse started acting up and we decided to trade. As I swung into the saddle in my normal warm weather attire of shorts and tennis shoes, the horse backed into tall grass. I found out the hard way that there was a barbed wire fence camouflaged by the thick growth. I won’t go into details about what happened next because it wasn’t pretty. But it sent me off to the emergency room again and the pattern gained momentum.

Here’s another one that I don’t want to give you a visual image about but suffice it to say that I came down with a strange health condition that was extremely rare and that no medication was able to slow down as it threatened my life. Obviously, it eventually turned around and I regained my health but not without leaving one more incident to remember.

Then there was the year I had volunteered to ride out to check on some lines that had just been buried for a phone that was being installed at a barn where I worked with some horses. It was a beautiful day and I thought I was in heaven as I rode bareback out through a corn field on a beautiful palomino gelding. We kicked up some peasants unexpectedly and next thing I knew, I was feeling air instead of horse as he bucked me off and then caught my face with his hoof on the way to the ground. There it was again-off to the hospital. I knew something would happen and it always did.

You’d think I would have gotten over my love of horses but it didn’t happen. I also didn’t consciously expect to get hurt as I saddled up for another day of doing what I loved more than anything.

This time I was swinging into the saddle as someone reached toward my mare’s head to “help me” as I was mounting. This man had been abusive to her in the past with his idea of breaking a bad habit she had. When she saw him coming towards her, she pulled back and we both went over backwards down a creek bank. She landed on top of me. There it was again. We all knew something was bound to happen and it always did.

Are you getting the idea?

And then there was the beautiful September day that ended with my car wreck, near death experience and once again, another trip to the hospital. Only this time, my insatiable hunger to understand more about the experience led me to the answer I needed to put
an end to these emergencies.

As I learned from books that crossed my path back in the 70′s like “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, I began to play and experiment with goals I was working on. I would use visualization and create a new belief about something I wanted to change. I would see the situation as if it had already changed. I learned to pretend it was true until it was and I found that it worked as long as I believed it. I had to believe it strongly enough so that my thoughts created the feelings I would actually be experiencing if it really was true. I found that as soon as I could imagine it, see it, really believe it and feel strong emotions with it, it would happen.

And then it hit me!

I was doing that very thing about my accidents. I was claiming an accident prone identity as an important part of my life by feeling strong emotions and expecting something to happen and it always did. Once I realized it, I got really upset with myself for allowing thoughts and expectations of negativity to run rampant and rule my life. I drew a line and said “No more!”

That day I slammed my fist down on the table with a decision that it would stop. I would break the pattern. I would not be going to the hospital that year. I was determined to stop The Law of Attraction from working against me. In order to do that, I had to change my thoughts and feelings. I had to replace the negative expectations with positive ones.

I created a new image in my mind of enjoying the beautiful fall colors. I would practice until I could actually smell the air that would be present on a breathtaking fall day as the leaves were beginning to change color. I would create a feeling of thanksgiving for my health and happiness. I refused to be around anyone who continued to joke about or expect another trip to the hospital. I took it very seriously and determined to create a different reality for myself after understanding how powerful thoughts and beliefs can be.

And then I witnessed what I considered at the time to be another miracle. The accidents stopped cold. They simply ended. I never went to the hospital again or had any serious accident after that. As a matter of fact, I still haven’t to this day. I was elated and thought I should be able to make it work for every goal for the rest of my life.

I received a rude awakening.

Sometimes when I followed the practices I have been speaking about, it worked like a charm. Before long, the goal I was working on became my reality. But sometimes it didn’t work and I was perplexed about that.

I spent years dissecting and analyzing my successes and failures. At the turn of the century, I discovered many new studies that were popping up from all around the world. I began to learn more about the way the brain works, about cellular memories, about quantum physics, intention, the power of the subconscious mind and how to put the pieces together to create consistent success.

After I gained consistency in my own life, I began coaching others in the skills that are necessary to make this process work.

It is quite easy to make it work as long as you can create the feelings and emotions that belong with the dream or goal you have in mind. There are two major problems most people encounter in working with their goals. They can’t get the feelings and emotions or they don’t know how to create the appropriate image of what they want. They don’t really know what their goal is or what to visualize.

My passion is coaching clients through a step by step process that identifies and dissolves those issues. The subconscious blocks and beliefs that don’t allow you to feel the necessary emotions or to discover the longings of your heart must be dealt with. If you are not achieving your goals, it is probably safe to assume that there are some subconscious beliefs that are sabotaging your progress and creating a barrier to the necessary emotions.

When you make the connection with your heart, you will feel the passion that is in it. That passion is what provides the drive and makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning to spend the day doing all of the things you love to do. If that’s not how you feel about your life, you are meant to and you can develop the skills that will cause it to happen.

I have proven something to myself over and over again. Thoughts, images or intentions become my reality when I focus a sufficient amount of my energy on them, allowing them to become real in my mind to the point of experiencing strong emotions when I think about them.

The better part of wisdom tells me to pay very close attention to what I spend my time thinking about and feeling. They are a powerful combination that sends a message to the entire universe that will return something of equivalent value to you-positive or negative.

Thank you for allowing me to share some of my experiences with you.

Even though most of my new co-workers hated me at first, it was really interesting to watch things unfold as I worked with some of these guys one on one. I pretty much kept to myself, did my job and stayed out of their way. Eventually I gained a reputation of being capable of doing the job and some of them even started teaching me their “trade secrets”.

Then the big day arrived. I had been assigned to work with someone I’ll call Bill and he was still attempting to make life rough for me. We were out on the job and as I picked up my end to help move something, he jerked it out of my hands and told me to get out of the way so I didn’t hurt somebody. Then he walked away with it, struggling all the way. About that time, the boss rolled around the corner. There I was, standing there dumbfounded, trying to figure out how to handle the situation as Bill struggled alone.

The look of rage came across the boss’s face and he gave me a piece of his mind for expecting to get paid while someone else did all the work. He drove away without letting me say a word. Bill was quite satisfied that I had been chewed out and that he had gotten points and sympathy for getting stuck with me.

I was pretty devastated and looked forward to going out after work with some of the guys who had befriended me. I would have plenty of time to drown my sorrows and bemoan the great injustice that had been done.

But then something happened that would cause me to make the decision of my life.

Thoughts of my near death experience kept coming to my mind and I was reminded of the energy of anger I saw myself emitting out into the universe in my life review. I had a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach as if I was about to do something I would regret. I started getting a very strong feeling that I should go home. And then I made the decision of my life and went home.

Once I was there, I realized that I had lost my opportunity to get sympathy and help figuring out what to do about the situation at work. I asked myself what I was supposed to do now and I got an answer that I wasn’t expecting. I heard as plain as day, “Love them as I love you.” I relived the experience of standing in the Presence that had showered me with unconditional love at the time of my car wreck.

I knew that I had to find the way to let my boss experience that feeling in the hope that he would learn the truth. It was a special moment and I became aware of the power of love to heal all things when it is chosen instead of its opposite.

It was a profound moment that felt very powerful. I went into my favorite room, sat down and got very relaxed. I visualized the intense White Light coming into my heart and carrying an intense and very powerful feeling of love out to my boss as he was encircled with White Light. I would drift from the feeling and visualization and then I would relive my own experience again and the feeling of love I had felt in the Presence. Once I was feeling it very powerfully again, I would visualize it around the boss and see the White Light around him. I continued this for hours into the night and about 3:00 AM I went to bed. It felt like something special was happening.

The next day, as usual, I was assigned to a crew working on a particular job and we all went to work. Within the hour, the boss appeared and yelled above the noise that I was to come to his office ASAP. My heart was in my throat as I walked in and saw a very strange look on his face. He told me to sit down and said that he wanted to hear my side of the story about what had happened yesterday. He relayed to me that he had been awakened in the middle of the night with the feeling that he had treated me very unfairly. It was a feeling that something wasn’t right; something didn’t make sense. I had built a good reputation so there must be something more to it than what Bill had told him. He wanted to hear my side of the story.

We talked for a bit and then he apologized. He admitted how bewildered he was by the feeling he awoke with the night before and repeatedly said that he didn’t have an explanation for it. I was in awe and I knew I couldn’t explain it to him. I also knew I would never be the same. I had chosen to feel love instead of the lower energies of anger, frustration or revenge-which are all a part of fear. I would never forget the power of love to heal a situation and change a relationship. I am so grateful for my decision to take the high road. I am the one who benefitted the most from doing it.

I had first of all become aware of a message that was trying to get through to me, then I listened to it and followed through by doing what I felt my heart was telling me to do. On that day, following this process became a way of life for me. Since that day, I have used this great power we have access to many times in many ways. It is something that anyone can develop and use to manifest goals and to heal relationships. Like every skill in life that is new and unfamiliar, it must be nurtured and developed but it awaits your interest in it and attention so it can go to work for you.

It wasn’t long after that day that I felt the urging to move on. I had gained many invaluable lessons and my time at the plant had served its purpose. It had given me another piece of what I was looking for.

My passion had been ignited by my Mom’s experience of receiving information about her twin’s death by some invisible means. During my car wreck, I had seen how we emit energy according to the emotions we are feeling, I had experienced what it felt like to be on the receiving end of the energy from emotions and now I was actually able to utilize this powerful and invisible energy, on purpose and consciously, to direct a message of Truth and Love to someone in his sleep. It was strong enough that it compelled him to wake up and want to do the right thing.

Can you fathom what is available to us and what a difference we can make? Could it be that things that SEEM to be “miracles” can be everyday occurrences?

I hope you will discover the same answer that I did!

Most people have hallmark moments that will never be forgotten. Mine were the ones that eliminated any doubt about the power available to each of us that can be used any way we choose.

This part of my story is a little personal and boring but very necessary. It is this experience that taught me about the power that we all have access to.

I came back from my near death experience knowing that I had to change. It was important to me to be able to feel love towards people instead of the anger that had always come from somewhere deep inside. I really tried but I just couldn’t make it happen. It was years later that I learned how powerful the subconscious mind is with its ability to run old internal programs that don’t change just because you want them to.

I was really confused about how I could become the person I wanted to be and felt really alone as the rest of life seemed to go on as usual.

The thought of marriage hadn’t ever appealed to me but after my wreck, I just couldn’t seem to get a sense of direction. I had dated someone for a while who had asked me to marry him and I eventually decided that marriage was the answer. I would get married, have kids and do everything else I felt that I was supposed to do to have more love in my life.

My intentions were good but obviously my plan had some flaws. Four years later, after doing everything within my power to make the marriage work, it was over.

I found myself alone in a strange town with no friends of my own. My dogs and horse were the center of my life at that point and I had no choice but to give them up and move back to my hometown and in with my parents. I kept wondering if life could get any worse. The answer seemed to be “Yes”.

I was beginning to get a little irritated with God again. I didn’t understand why He would turn his back on me when I was only trying to do His will by getting married. I had heard about God’s will all of my life and I was only trying to do what I thought He wanted me to do. Now I was really alone and He didn’t seem to be anywhere around.

While living with my parents, someone told me about a big company that was forced to hire women and fill a quota in order to get government contracts. It was really good money, it would help me get back on my feet again and give me time to figure out where to go from there. It also gave me the opportunity to learn some new skills so I didn’t feel so helpless. I applied and got one of the positions.

What I was about to experience was one of the toughest things I’ve ever experienced but at the same time, it was a turning point in my life. In my near death experience, I saw how my energy affected others. I was about to feel firsthand what it was like to be on the receiving end of other people’s energy that was directed at me. It was a priceless experience that allowed me to see how very real and powerful thoughts are.

The day I walked into that plant was the first time I had ever actually felt energy coming from someone else. Maybe it was because there were so many of them with such strong feelings of hatred for me. Everywhere I went there were men staring, glaring and hating me. The energy they created as they thought about me was powered by their belief and anger that I was taking a job that I was incapable of doing. They saw me as nothing but trouble and feared that they would be required to do extra work because of me. They hated me with every thought they had and every ounce of their beings and they wanted me to know it. I got the message.

It would have been easy to feel helpless and disempowered but thankfully, I was headed towards a miracle that would do just the opposite. The foundation of everything I had been taught about life was about to crumble.

Today I’m going to go a little deeper into my perception of what I saw and understood when my soul or consciousness, the part of me that was very much still me without my physical body, emerged from the dark tunnel into the Light during my near death experience.

Once again, I want to emphasize that I fully understand that this is only my perception of things. I respect your right to your own beliefs. I do not claim to be right in what I believe or that I know and understand it all. I am simply journeying along the path of life, seeking Truth and Knowledge-information that feels right in my heart. I no longer want to follow something just because someone else told me it was so.

I will refer to this Being of Light as God. But it was so evident that what I was experiencing was nothing like what I had been taught that God is or the experience of death would be like. This brilliant White Light took on the form of a man to give me a point of reference since that is what I believed I would see.

I had been taught to believe that the figure of a man would be sitting on a throne. Upon my arrival at the gates of heaven, He would judge me and I would either be allowed to enter or I would be banished to suffer for my sins. I had always been afraid of God and His judgment and the thought of death paralyzed me with fear.

Thankfully, I had also been taught that God is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent and in a flash that made sense to me.

Suddenly I understood that God IS everything. He is everywhere and all knowing and powerful. This brilliant loving energy is what makes up the entire universe and all that is. I also saw that I am a part of this Light and that my soul is made of that same essence.

I saw that I have the power to be so much more than what I was acting out in the movie of my life I was watching. I was able to understand that we draw closer to God or that good feeling I was experiencing, by emulating the higher energies of peace and love and by eliminating the energy of fear in its many forms like anger, resentment or envy.

The only thing God could do was love me because He was a Being of Love-Absolute Love in its purest form. He was incapable of anything but love. As I watched my life, I didn’t like what I saw yet I still felt only His Unconditional Love.

He allowed me to decide if what I was seeing was what I wanted to be the representation of my life, the results of the talents and abilities I had been given. He showed me that all of my emotions like anger, fear, panic and anxiety created a vibration that I emitted into the universe. That energy had an impact on all of life.

I was given the understanding that physical things, reduced down to their smallest part, are made of frequencies of energy. And some thirty years later, technology is now available to look into any physical object and see that it is made up of frequencies of energy. Even hospital procedures, both testing equipment and some surgeries involve the use of specific frequencies of energy.

So I came to believe that it is that piece that causes The Law of Attraction to bring energy into your life with the same equivalency as that which you are putting out there. It’s not so much what you think about as it is what your thoughts make you feel-what emotions they arouse as they occupy your time. The more energy that you focus into an area, the more predominant that area becomes in your life.

Your thoughts do play a part in telling the universe what your intention is, but they do not solely have the power to manifest your dreams. Thoughts work hand in hand with your emotions and intentions. You must gain control over the whole system because it is always at work bringing things into your life-whether or not you consciously decide to take part in it.

Because of an event that had a great impact on my life, a car wreck and near death experience, I have been driven to understand how to connect with the power that I know each of us has within us. I believe I have found many of the answers I have looked for.

I don’t claim to know it all or that my beliefs are right or complete but they have led me to a process that has been consistently working for me and my life continues to improve. The power of the process
I follow comes from connecting with a spiritual energy that is a part of everything and has unlimited potential.

I connect with this Presence by experiencing feelings in my heart, on purpose, at will, after making an intention known and while thinking certain thoughts. This is a skill that must be developed like any other skill but it is something anyone can do.

I never stopped wondering how my Mom could know something that no one audibly told her. Over the years, I continued to question everything because what I had been taught about God and the way life works just didn’t make sense. My questions weren’t always appreciated and especially about religion.

It confused me to be told that I was a child of God and that God loved me while at the same time hearing threats that I would be sent to burn in hell for doing something authority figures didn’t want me to do.

Eventually, I became a rebellious teenager, full of anger. I was very cynical and claimed there couldn’t be a God.

Then came a September day that began like any other….

I was heading out to the country with a friend to show him my horses. Suddenly an oncoming car turned in front of me at highway speeds. I have no memory of anything that happened in this world for several days after that.

I can’t remember the sound of screeching tires, breaking glass or the crunch of metal as my car flew into the air, hit a telephone pole and landed in a ditch. My friend was able to walk away but I was not.

Somewhere in all of the commotion, I died.

When I awoke in the hospital days later, the only memory I had was of the time I spent outside of my lifeless body that had remained in the car.

There are no words to describe what happened but it seemed as if I had flown at great speeds through a tunnel. And then I emerged into the most incredible place of peace and tranquility imaginable as I stood before a warm, loving Presence, a brilliant White Light that was about to show me my life. This Presence wasn’t anything like what I had been told and I lost all fear of death.

I could feel how much I was loved as I reviewed my life. This Presence wasn’t capable of feeling anything but love for me. I saw and understood that it isn’t God who punishes me. I am the one who has an ever present choice in all matters. The choices I make either allow me to feel the connection that is always there or to feel separate from it.

I saw and felt the energy of fear, anger and resentment as I watched myself acting out various roles in the life review I was watching. I felt the great contrast between those emotions and feelings of love, forgiveness, compassion, gratitude. From over there, I understood what heaven felt like and the true meaning of going to heaven. I understood how important it is to feel love for all things.

As badly as I wanted to stay where I was, I knew that I had to come back and change some things. I understood things that I could never put into words. I saw how powerful we are and the potential we have but hardly use. It all seemed very clear from over there and I asked to come back.

And then I looked around to discover I was lying in a hospital bed. My Mom and my very good friend Mike were at my side.

“Now what?” I wondered.
